Fred tries to cook...

Fred attempts to help out with cooking the dinner, but finds it rather difficult and scary.
"I don't think cooking implements were made for little creatures like me," he said, and decides that danger of being squished was definitely a good excuse not to help out any more.

Fred gets chased into a tree by Tigger

It was a lovely sunny day so Fred went out into the garden.
He sat amongst the flowers again enjoying the sunshine.
Fred watched the bees and flies and other insects flying from flower to flower.
It was rather relaxing
just sitting there.
But then Fred noticed a dark shape moving towards him.
What appeared to be a tail was moving above it.

Suddenly Fred twigged.
It was a cat!
After the last interaction Fred had had with a cat, where he thought the cat liked him and then it had pulled off his happy bunny face, Fred was understandably nervous.
Fred decided it would be best to hide.
He climbed into a little tree, thinking that being up high he would be safer.

Did the cat see him?
The little stripy cat wandered lazily over to the tree and lay down in the shade.
Fred held his breath, hoping the stripy cat hadn't spotted him.
'Tigger' read Fred off the stripy cat's collar, "so that's what she must be called..."
Fred wasn't sure if little stripy cats were different to little black cats, so he was far too frightened to talk to her.

Fred decided to just sit quietly in the tree and wait until Tigger went away.
Tigger sat up, licked her paw and looked around.
Fred tried to not breath.
Tigger walked around and around the tree, sniffing at the branches and pawing the grass.
Then she lay down again.
But she lay there for ages!
Fred was very quiet.
He tried to not move at all.
Fred started to get sore.
"How long will she lie there for?!" thought Fred, getting very tired and very bored.
"I can't take it anymore!" thought Fred.
Tigger looked alot like she was sleeping, and he was very high in the tree so he thought it might be safe to climb down.
Fred started to climb quietly round to the other side.
Fred climbed precariously out onto a branch.
He sat there for a little while, feeling safe being further away from the stripy cat, and camouflaged amongst the flowers, but the branch was too unsteady.
Fred moved further out and it started to bend.
The branch bended so far that it reached the ground and Fred was able to clamber off and into the grass.
Fred peeked around the corner of the tree and saw that Tigger was still sleeping.
"Phew!" thought Fred and he sneaked back to the house.
"I escaped a cat!" thought Fred, glad to have avoided a conflict but also a little sad because the stripy cat seemed nice and gentle.
"Bunnies and cats don't mix!" he reminded himself, so he wouldn't be tempted to go back and see if Tigger would be his friend.

Occupied by these thoughts, Fred hadn't realised that the window was now closed.
Fred was locked out!
"How will I get back in?" Fred wondered, starting to feel frightened again.
"Oh no! what will I do?"
Fred knocked at the door but they didn't answer.
"Perhaps I knocked too quietly?" thought Fred.
Fred looked through the little eye hole but no one could be seen.
"Do they not recognise me?" he said.
Fred sat on the front doorstep and thought about when to do.
"Aha!" he thought, "the letterbox!"
So he climbed through the leterbox, which was awfully awkward, but hooray, he was back safe at home!

Fred and Steve Starshine's dramatic jump...

Fred was walking past the bathroom when he heard raised voices coming through the open door.
He peeked his head in, when he heard his name being called.
"Hallooo Fred!"
The voice was coming from high up by the ceiling.
Fred craned his head up and spotted a little yellow star shaped thing waving ecstatically.
"Fred! Halloo, its me Steve, the wild and wonderful, fantabulous explorer, death-defying acrobat, Steve Starshine!" Steve shouted from his great distance.
Fred looked up at this little yellow star in complete bewilderment.
"That's Steve, isn't it?" thought Fred, "what is he doing?"
Fred couldn't hear what he was shouting very well.
Fred just kept his eyes straining up to see what was happening.
"I, the dangerous, life enhancing Steve Starshine, will be performing my most dangerous feat yet!"
Just then Fred heard another voice shout out, but it came from right beside him, "Don't do it, Steve!"
"You're an eejit!" the voice said more quietly.
"Hello, " said Fred, realising it was Ronald the Rubber duck.

"Oh, Fred can you talk some sense into that silly starfish?" pleaded Ronald.
"What's he trying to do?" enquired Fred, getting rather concerned Steve might be about to do something rather stupid.

"Uh, he's a nightmare. He was sitting around all bored, said he was sick of taking baths! So he tried hiding away for a while in a wee corner, but he was only getting dusty. So suddenly said, 'Right! I'm going to do something exciting, even if you won't!'
"I mean, really, what's so wrong with baths? We've always had baths. It's our thing. Now, of course he thinks he's better than bath-time, thinks he's some kind of daredevil."
Suddenly Ronald turned and shouted "Why don't you jump then?!" up at Steve.
Regretting his flash of anger Ronald cringed at the thought of Steve actually jumping.
"Roll up, roll up!" shouted Steve again, mistaking Ronald's anger for excitement.
"The show will soon commence, and I will attempt a mid-air somersault into the empty bath!"
Steve waved his arm in a flourishing manner that he thought typical of a circus performer.
"Wow," he said, "You's look awfully small from up here." Starting to regret his rather reckless decision on a new career path. "I've no formal training," he thought "will I be doing it right?"
Looking down on his friends, he tried to imagine excitement and anticipation in their faces, rather than what was plainly fear and worry.
"Never fear for I am a master!" he shouted.
"Too late now," he thought, "fake it till you make it!"
And jumped.

Steve fell quickly, and landed in the bottom of the bath with a loud splat.
"Oh no!" squealed Ronald, "I can't look!"
Fred attempted to comfort him but was vastly unsure of what to say.
Steve didn't stir.
Fred and Ronald held their breaths, unable to say the dark worries that were building up inside their minds.
Suddenly, Steve jumped up with a flourish, and said "Ta da!"
"Phew!" Fred breathed out again, "thank goodness he's alright."
They ran over and hugged him, just glad he'd survived okay.
"Don't ever do that to me again!" ordered Ronald.
"But it was fun! I'm an acrobat!" squealed Steve excitedly.
"But what if you weren't made of sponge and fabric, you could've died!" Ronald retorted.
"Tell him, Fred," said Ronald.
They turned around but Fred had already slipped away, anxious not to get involved in another one of their domestics...

Fred and the oak tree...

Fred thought that as it was such a nice day he should get out into the garden and the fresh air.

Fred decided he would help the environment by planting a native oak tree.

"Soon it will grow bigger than me!" said Fred, happily watering the fledgling tree in the sunshine.

Tuesday 6 July 2010

Fred and the almost Lilliputians...

Slowly Fred was discovering hidden little groups of people and interesting places that he didn't even know existed.
Simply by walking about, Fred would stumble upon something or someone unexpected.
It made Fred feel a lot less alone and a lot less forgotten.
This idea of magic and possibility was so enchanting to Fred that he was determined to see what else was out there!

So one day, Fred was in the study, climbing up to one of the high shelves to see the spectacular view from it, when he discovered a quaint little red house.
"I wonder who could live here?" thought Fred, peering into one of the little windows.

He couldn't see much, and he didn't want to be too nosy in case he would offend someone.

Suddenly Fred saw a tiny blonde head peeping from around the corner of the wee house.
"Hello?" Fred said in a quiet voice.
" 'Ello?" said the tiny blonde girl.
Fred didn't want to frighten the little girl, so he smiled nicely at her and said in a gentle voice, "my name's Fred, what's yours?"
Staring at him with big excited eyes, the little girl whispered, "Rosalie."
"and how are you, Rosalie?" Fred asked her.
"Brilliant," she smiled at him, "You are a bunny wabbit?" she asked.
"I suppose you could say that, I'm sort a of bunny rabbit" said Fred.

Suddenly the little girl ran and jumped up at him, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"I like you! I love bunnies, and you are the nicest one I've ever seen!" she squealed excitedly.
Patting her back awkwardly, Fred said "thanks, thankyou, you're a very nice little girl too," unsure of what to do with this over excited little girl.
"You'll play with me won't you?" Rosalie asked him.
"Sure..." said Fred, concerned of what he was getting himself into.
"You come meet my family!" Rosalie ordered.

Suddenly a whole load of little people jumped upon him.
"Woah!" said Fred, having had the wind knocked out of him again.
"These little people are awfully friendly," thought Fred, suspicious but secretly delighted.
"Hello," said Fred, unsure of what else to say.
All at once each little person kept jabbering at him, "Hello!" "Bunny!" "Giant!" "Teddy!"
"Come in the house!" the mother said,
"We'll make you some tea."

Fred poked his head into the house, wondering if he'd actually fit into such a tiny place.
He squeezed his head in first, then his shoulders, twisting himself around and folding his long legs in.
Fred was in! But not happy. He was very squished and uncomfortable.
"It's a bit small" Fred said awkwardly, trying to be polite.
There wasn't even room for anyone else in the house now he was in there. Fred felt almost like Alice in Wonderland, or like Gulliver and the Lilliputians...
"I'll just come out again, I think," he said.
Clambering out, the little people were rather glad. Although they wanted to make him welcome, they were a bit concerned their house would get broken.

Fred sat down outside the house, and the little people gathered around him.

"Tell us a story!" said Rosalie, making herself comfortable on Fred's lap.
"Yes!" everyone shouted.
"Yes dear, tell us about yourself, Fred," said the mother, "I'm sure you've lots of interesting stories from the spare room, and the shelves below."
"Ooh, the shelves below!" whispered Rosalie in awe, "tell us about them."
"OK" said Fred, stealing his nerve, "I'll tell you some stories."
Fred wasn't used to being the centre of attention and found it quite scary.
"But these people are so nice!" thought Fred, and he felt less frightened and became quite glad to have nice little people so interested in what he had to say.

"Well..." said Fred and he told them of all the adventures he'd had so far: of the gang of Easter chicks and being mauled by the big black puma, and Fred realised he'd had a rather interesting life.
The little people ooh and ahhed in all the right places, their big eyes almost popping out of their little heads with interest and excitement.
Fred talked and talked and soon realised it was getting rather late.
Little Rosalie yawned and he said he'd better get off home, and let them go to their beds.
Sadly they all agreed.
"But you'll come back, won't you?" asked Rosalie sleepily.
"Yes!" "Please do!" "We can tell you our stories!" all the other little people cried.
"And you can tell us more stories," said the mother, "You're a very good storyteller."
Fred had only just met these little people, and didn't even know all their names, but he was sure he'd made some real friends, and Rosalie seemed determined to make Fred her new big brother.
Fred assured them he'd come back very soon, wished them all sweet dreams and waved good night to them.
Climbing back down to his room, Fred felt very tired but really happy. Not only did he make some friends, but he had found something he was good at, telling stories. So he wasn't entirely useless after all!

Fred wonders who lives in a house like this?

Whilst wandering round the spare room, Fred discovered a little box full of furniture.
The box was all set out to be lived in, so it was evident it was someone's little house.
Fred couldn't see anyone about so he had a little look inside and sat on a bed.
"It's a little small," said Fred, "even for me."
The whole scenario seemed a little familiar, in an ominous kind of way.
"Hmm," thought Fred "I feel like Goldilocks."
Fred heard a little noise and whispered, "Oh no!"
Nobody was there but Fred decided he'd better leave before the bears turned up...

Fred eats a strawberry...

Fred discovered someone had picked the strawberries from the garden.

"Wow!" thought Fred, "they look great!"

Fred was very impressed, but as he was fairly small, he didn't think that he could eat a whole one.

Then Fred spotted a tiny strawberry!

"It's perfect!" said Fred, "Just the right size for me."

Chuffed to bits at the miniature strawberry, Fred felt it was almost too cute and perfect to eat, so he
just sat and held it for a while, happy to have found something that was naturally just his size.

Eventually Fred did eat the strawberry, and it tasted just like how he'd always imagined it would!

Fred watches television...

Today Fred discovered television.
"Wow," said Fred, "You can learn so much. It's so interesting, seeing into other people's lives, whole other undiscovered worlds!"
Fred was delighted and sat for many hours watching the television.
Soon, however, Fred's eyes began to get sore and he felt very tired, very drained.
"My eyes feel oddly square," thought Fred to himself.
"I think I shall have a break" he said aloud, and although Fred had learnt alot from TV he had this strange feeling that whilst new things were going into his head, some things seemed to have left as well.
So Fred decided that although TV was a great discovery it was perhaps better taken in small doses.
